Just thought I ought to say hello.
I'm living in suburbia and using the grid extensively.
Only solar we use is solar hot water and a solar fridge in the garage that I made.
We grow most of our own fruit and veg but otherwise are reliant on the matrix
(councils, energy companies chain stores etc.)
I do like tinkering in my spare time.
As well as the fridge, I've made a very inefficient wind turbine from an old fan,
which helps keep the batteries charged on windy days.
A peltier based liquid cooling system for a testbed PC.
and lots of other mini projects.
If/when we move to a new place we will use solar for most of our electricity needs.
Meanwhile I'm gathering info and plan on trying out a lot of small scale "off grid" projects.
My non energy efficient hobbies are:
Brewing beer (uses lots of energy but still cheaper and better than buying it)
Keeping tropical fish
Fast cars/motor racing
My more earth friendly hobbies are:
Gardening esp. heirloom plants
beekeeping
Well that's a basic intro, so hello to all
Gerry
