Hello From The Eco-Ranch in Terlingua, Texas

A couple of members invited me to join you, so here I am! We are located in the Big Bend area of Texas, about 20 miles from the Mexican border. Our place is 5 miles out in the desert from the nearest paved road and is self-sufficient.

I look forward to seeing what others are doing out there.

My name is Alan, and assembled this forum. I am addicted to the sea, and have been living without wires (and free as the wind) for over 15 years on my boats. I truly believe technology is at the point for us to easily be free, and living in luxury without the controls of the GRID !

Hey Robert, glad you made it!. we have a lot of projects in the works and up date information as we go along. Feel free to start your own and show us how your set up started out and how your doing now.SD.

Thank you for the nice welcome AND the invitation in the first place! I committed to documenting what we are doing on YOUTUBE and have 30-some videos up there now. They are long, unprofessional and boring to those not interested in sustainable living, but I don't care! The videos document what we are doing. The winter project is to build as many walls on our home as we can before to 100+degree heat returns.

The house is built from empty bottles, mainly beer bottles. It is about 3500 square feet. Walls are thick and vary from the width of one bottle, to 24", depending on location. The thermal mass moderates the temperature. We are also installing air tubes to further control temperature and something of my own design, water cooling using water from an underground cistern to air condition the greenhouse.

AND, this all is for starters. There is a lot more.

I spend most of my time, as you can imagine, either working or sleeping, so my posts will be infrequent at best. But I hope to share ideas with those here and thanks again for the opportunity!

That is more than I could have expected! Thank you! One thing though, the YOUTUBE channel is: "ECORANCHUSA". I have taken ecoranchus, but for some reason YOUTUBE does not recognize me with it, so I use the "USA".

I am currently building a "light wall" in what will be our guest bathroom. This is a bottle brick wall, e/g: two bottle bottoms taped together to let light through. While I am NOT artistic, I will try to put a geometric feature in the center of it.

This one is being totally documented in a video about how to build with bottles (my way).
