Living on a boat "Off the Grid" has a wonderful benefit, as you can harvest Seaweed. Seaweed is a vegetable of the sea. It is wonderful to cook with and adds great flavour to many foods.

In the southern islands of Hong Kong, there is an island called "Po Toi". The bays around the islands are in abundance of Kelp seaweed.

As the island is mainly populated with small fishing villages, it is quite easy to drop anchor, get out the dinghy and harvest the detached leaves floating at the top. Once a large bucket is filled, we take to the shore and simply lay over some of the bamboo, and dry for several days.

I go out fishing several times a month to catch the fish we eat, but that is an entirely different topic !

Those of you living off the grid, near the oceans should take advantage of the sea's most abundant vegetable... Seaweed !!!
